History of the New Bremen Pumpkinfest

Founded in 2003, Pumpkinfest began as a small event for giant pumpkin growers to show off their biggest and most prized pumpkins.  Over the years, Pumpkinfest grew into a beloved local festival bringing in giant pumpkins from all over the Midwest and putting on equally giant events, like setting the record for the World’s Largest Pumpkin Pie in 2010.

In recent years, the New Bremen Pumpkinfest became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and adopted a new purpose and mission.  The mission focuses on giving back to the community by providing a quality harvest-style festival in celebration of music, art, food, football, friends, family, and all things pumpkin flavored and to raise money to support parks and recreation in the community for years to come.  In 2013, the New Bremen Pumpkinfest created a charitable fund at the New Bremen Foundation.  With several successful events in a row, the New Bremen Pumpkinfest committee will be able to make a sizeable donation to a community improvement project that is currently in the works. The committee is very excited about this opportunity and look forward to sharing details with the community once plans are finalized.

New Bremen Pumpkinfest 2018 will be held on Friday, September 28th & Saturday, September 29th.  

This year’s event will kick off at 4 PM on Friday, September 28th with the “happy hour and a half” featuring drink specials.  Friday evening will feature kid’s inflatables and entertainment from Roger DeMange and back by popular demand – Another Round. New this year, there will be a home brew competition on Friday night at Pumpkinfest.

Saturday, September 29th will begin with a pumpkin pancake breakfast at 7 AM, which will be served by the New Bremen Cub Scouts.  Proceeds will benefit their organization.

The Great Pumpkin Roll Bike Ride will begin at 8:30 AM on Saturday with distances of 20, 30, and 60 miles.  Riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Entrants can register in advance online at www.newbremenpumpkinfest.com or at the event.

The Artisan Showcase will return on Saturday from 9 AM to 6 PM.  The Artisan Showcase will include social painting events and over 25 local vendors displaying their talents in a variety of mediums including chainsaw sculptures, photography, glass blowing, painting and more. New this year the Artisan Showcase will also feature demonstrations from several of the artists

Saturday’s entertainment will provide a variety of country, rock, and pop music from local performers – The Krew, Kevin and the Others, Kaitlyn Schmit and The Move, and Nashville Crush. There is definitely something for everyone to enjoy!

Youth entertainment and activities includes the annual kid’s pie eating contest, sidewalk chalk contest, kids inflatables, face painting and kids social painting. Also, back this year will be the Touch-a-Truck event where kids can climb into community firetrucks, police vehicles and more! New this year, we will be offering free pony rides on Saturday as well. This year will again feature craft beer from local breweries including Moeller Brew Barn, Tailspin Brewing Company, Lake Rat Brewing, and Yellow Springs Brewery.  Wine and domestic beers will also be available to compliment the great food selection including pumpkin brats and pumpkin pie.

If you are interested in helping your community, the committee is still looking for more committee members to help organize the event.  Members usually only spend a few hours a month attending meetings and planning the event. And to allow us to continue to contribute back to community projects, we will also be looking for volunteers to help serve beer and food at the event.
